Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is the Early 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "C. Crolius, Manufacturer, New York."
This jug is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Shape, and a Clear Pottery Stamp Framed by Cobalt. Stands 14" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two 1/8 chips inside the spout, a 1 1/2" chip on the top of the spout on the right side, a faint 2 1/2" hairline from the spout in the left side (closeup), two 3/8" chips in the body, and four chips at the base (1/4" to 1/2"). No stains or restoration.
An early and historic piece of New York history.
