Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is the Early 1 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "C. Crolius, Manufacturer, New York."
This jug is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Clear Pottery Stamp Framed by a Double Edged Frame and Surrounded by 7 Dots, and Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A ping and associate surface lines on the left side (closeup). That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Exceptionally clean glaze. Four short firing lines on the bottom (1/4" to 1") and two kiln touches-- all on the right side and in the making.
