• Item 5722

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "Burger Bro's & Co., Rochester, N.Y."

This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. and George Burger who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1867-1869 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports Small Churn Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number, and an Elaborate Cobalt Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup. The decorators at Burger were some of the best and this tulip shows considerable skill in shading and accenting of the decoration.  Measures 15 1/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Minor nibbles around the seating ring inside where a lid would sit, and a small, light stain on the bottom front to the right.   That's it!  No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Two stone pings in the making.  Exceptionally clean example.
