• Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Burger & Lang, Rochester, N.Y."

This is the mark of John Burger, Jr., George Burger, and their brother-in-law, George Lang who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1867-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a signature decoration for this maker: An Elaborate Cobalt Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup. The decorators at Burger were some of the best and this tulip shows considerable skill in shading and accenting of the decoration.  Measures 14 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A couple 1/8" nibbles on the spout, and a 3/8" wide chip on the right side of the spout.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Three manufacturing flaws: a 1/2" firing line at the base of the handle, a 1/4" straw void on the front middle to the right, and a 1/2" chip on the back bottom.
