Item 2545

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous Blue and White Spongeware Pitcher in the Wild Rose Pattern.

This beauty is embossed on each side with an Single Stem Wild Rose in Bloom. A border of embossed flowers at the top and embossed semi-circles and diamonds at the bottom completes the decoration.  Stands 9" tall.

What makes this piece considerably more uncommon is that the sponging is over the entire surface rather than top and bottom as is the norm.  I have only seen three or four of these.

You can see a fine example of this pitcher in Terry Taylor and Terry and Kay Lowrance, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, on pp. 84-85.

Excellent Condition.  Two minor 1/8" chips and some tiny nibbles inside the rim.  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines,  cracks, stains, or restoration.
