Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and White Spongeware Teapot with Original Lid.
Dating to the late 19th century, this beauty features a bulbous form with graceful spout and handle, and original flat lid with round knob. Nicely patterned sponging all around. Measures 5" tall and 9" from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle.
This spongeware teapot is discussed in Taylor and Lowrance, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware , p. 93.
Excellent Condition . The base has even wear around the inner rim where the lid sits. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has a 1/4" chip on the underside of the bottom edge that fits into the teapot. Otherwise as made.
As you know these teapots are uncommon, especially with the correct lid and in this condition.
