Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon and Gorgeous Blue and White Spongeware Pitcher in the Leaping Deer Pattern.  


A Fancy Top and Bottom Border of Sprigs and Scrolls Frame a Medallion with a Leaping Deer on Each Side and a Beaded Handle.  The cobalt sponging is exceptionally dark and rich on this most uncommon example.  Stands 8 1/4" tall.  


This piece is discussed in Terry Taylor and Terry and Kay Lowrance, Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, pp. 59-60.


Fair Condition.  Eight chips inside the rim (1/8" to 3/4"), and one outside (1/2") with two hairlines from the rim (2", 4") on the same side.  No base chips, stains, or restoration.
