Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Quart Blue and White Spongeware Maple Syrup Jug made and signed on the bottom "Mf'g'd by F. H. Weeks, Akron, O. Style XXX Pat. Pending."
This is the work of Frederick Weeks who ran the pottery in Akron from the early 1870's and in partnership with his brother in the late 1870's (F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 51-52).
This beauty features a Fancy Molded and Decorative Top, Leaf Handle Holders with Bail Handle, Overall Blue Sponging, and a Bold Cobalt Label Reading, "Grandmother's Maple Syrup of 50 Years Ago." Stands 5 1/4" tall.
What is very interesting about this jug is that they were looking to the 1820's as the "good old days"!
Very Good Condition. Four 1/8" to pinhead-size nibbles on the spout, and a 1/2" chip onthe bottom of the left side. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
