Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fabulous 3 Gallon Stoneware Jar that reads, "From Bergenthal and Brast, Powhattan, Ohio." One of the products that Bergendthal sold was honey.
The decoration indicates that this jar was made in Southwestern, Pennsylvania, probably at Greensboro.
Dating about 1880, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are a straight and squiggle stripe, vining, the company advertising, a freehand capacity number framed by 3 dashes on each side, and a bottom stripe. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. Stands 14" tall. Stands 14" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the bottom fold of the tooled rim in the back, a 3/4" chip on the back of each handle, and some surface wear and light staining from use. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
