Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar Made and Stamped by "G. Benton & L. Stewart, Hartford."
This is the work of two old sea captians, G. Benton and L. Stewart who made pottery in the old Cross pottery from 1815-1822 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Straight Rim and Exagerrated Handles Up Near the Top, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Additional Cobalt on the Handle Terminals. Stands 13" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some chips around the footer, and a 1" chip on the underside near the edge on one side. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. I should look so good at 200 years old!
