• Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this monumental 5 Gallon Stoneware Jug made for the "Ayres Bros., Jobbers, Crockery & Glass, Stamford, Conn."

The decoration indicates that this jug was made for Ayres by E. & L. P. Norton of Bennington, Vermont which was in operation from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44).

This beauty features the Company Advertising in Three Lines Impressed and Washed in Cobalt on the Shoulder, and a Large Cobalt Floral in the Norton Style Up the Front.  A handsome and larger-sized advertising jug.  Stands 18 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A flat and narrow 1/2" chip inside the spout, a quarter-size impact mark on the front bottom (closeup), and a narrow 1 1/4" chip on the front bottom edge.  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Extremely clean example.

A large and gorgeous merchant jug!
