Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "A. O. Whittemore, Havana, N.Y."
This is the work of A. O. Whittemore who potted in Havana from 1862-1893 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72).
This beauty features a Grooved Rim for Tying Down a Cloth or Wax Paper Top, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Impressed Capacity Number, and a Bright Brushed Cobalt Tulip. The tulip has a stem with 4 leaves and a blossom with four large petals and a swirl center. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Some glaze exfoliation inside at the bottom and some on the underside, a 1/2" shallow chip on the rim by the left handle, and some scattered light staining from use. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
