Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare 3 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "A. L. McChesney."


This is the stamp of Andrew McChesney who began a pottery in Newport, Tuscarawas County, Ohio in 1843 which was out of production by 1850 (F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, p. 107.


This beauty features the Tall and Slightly Ovoid Churn Form with Broad Rim, Tooled Shoulder, and the Pottery Stamp on the Front.  Stands 15 1/2" tall.  


Very Good Condition.  Waterglass staining inside from use, small chips inside the rim, two chips outside the rim (3/8", 3/4"), and some scattered glaze nibbles.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A  1" chip on the right handle and lightly convex on the bottom-- both in the making.
