Item 3403

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."

This is the mark of Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1867-1874 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).

This beauty sports the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Cluster of Grapes Hanging from a Vine! The vine has 6 leaves and the cluster has 18 grapes. Bright, dark, and shiny cobalt blue too!  Measures 12" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Wear and minor nibbles on the seating rim where the lid sat, a few minor nibbles inside the top rim, chips under the right handle, and a 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge.  No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.   A superficial 1" firing line in the groove above the pottery stamp in the making.
