Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this well decorated 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1867-1874 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp and a Large Cluster of Grapes Hanging from a Vine. The vine has 3 large leaves and the cluster of grapes has 22 grapes. Bright, dark, and shiny cobalt blue too! Measures 11 1/2" tall and 11 1/4" wide across the top.
Fair to Good Condition. A 1" chip inside the rim, a 3/8" flake on the underside, and a sealed hairline from the rim to near the bottom (closeup), and a rust stain around the rim from a wire once tied on. No outer rim chips or restoration.
