Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "A. Conrad, New Geneva, Fayette Co., Pa."
Alexander Conrad ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1870-1882 before moving to Shinnston, WV (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-65).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Multi-Layered Tooled Rim with Broad Cobalt Stripe, and a Large Circular Stencil with the Company Advertising Around the Outside and an Eagle in the Middle. A garland of roses at the bottom and cobalt accents at the handles completes the decoration. The entire front is decorarted. Stands 13 1/2" tall
Very Good Condition. Considerable glaze chipping inside on the lower half, wear and minor chips on the front of the left handle, larger chips along the bottom of the right handle, and two chips on the underside at the edge (1", 1 1/2"). No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
