Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock made by "A. Conrad, New Geneva, Pa."
Alexander Conrad ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1870-1882 before moving to Shinnston, WV (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-65).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, the Company Advertising Stenciled on the Front, and Exagerrated Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals. The rim is made to be helpful to tying a strong around it to hold a waxed paper or cloth top. Measures 7" tall and 11" wide.
Very Good Condition. A narrow 3/4" chip on the left handle. A 4" hairline parallel to the base on the right side toward the back that wraps under 3" (closeup). No rim or base chips, stains, or restoration. Slightly out of round and slightly lower on the right side in the making.
