Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug with Folk Art Decoration.
The decoration makes it logical to attribute the jug to the Somerset Potters' Works of Somerset, Massachusetts that ran under the direction of the Chase Family from 1847-1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 51).
This beauty features a Pour Spout, Huge Flower with Dotted and Striped Leaves, and a Pair of Hovering Above Waiting for the Nector. Besides the interesting pour spout, the base of the handle is impressed to look like it was put on with six screws, the the merchant name is impressed one more time. Stand 15" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the spout, and chipping on the front of the spout. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A stone ping on the top left of the flower and two salt drips on the front right in the making.
One of your more unusual jugs for form and decoration!
