Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1860, this beauty features an Ovoid Shape, Tall Rim, Tooled Handles, and Profuse Cobalt Decoration. A squiggle stripe encircles the shoulder and handles, and two flowering plants enhance the front. This is a very pleasing and identifiable Remmey decoration. Strong cobalt throughout the design. Measures 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim, a 1 1/8" chip on the rim above one handle, three 1/2" chips on the side of the footer and four chips on the underside (1/4" to 1"). No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
