Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 3 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar with Floral.
The decoration makes it easy to attribute t a decorator who worked first ah the Ottman Brothers Pottery in Fort Edward, N.Y. and then at the Fulper Pottery in Flemington, New Jersey. This floral is found in identical form on signed pieces from both potteries. Floral decorations from the Flemington period are larger and more exuberant, and I would suspect this jar is from that period.
Dating from approximately 1885 to 1895, this beauty sports a Large Freehand Cobalt Floral in Bright Cobalt. The light clay background provides a great contrast to the dark cobalt. Meaures 13" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple nibbles and two 1/4" chips on the seating ring inside where a lid would sit, a 3/8" chip on the rim in the back, and four 1/4" chips on the very bottom edge. That's it! No inner rim or handle chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
