Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose form and decoration make it easy to attribute to John Schermerhorn of James River.
Schermerhorn made stoneware in Richmond, Virginia from 1817-1837 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 102).
Dating around 1830, this jar features a Wide Rim, Tooled Schoulder, Ovoid Body with a Brushed Cobalt Tulip on Each Side. Stands 14" tall.
Good Condition. Chips around the rim and base, wear and some staining to the surface. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
