Item 9936
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped "Lyons."
This is the work of Thompson Harrington who ran the pottery in Lyons from 1852 to 1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 73-74).
This beauty sports the Pottery "Lyons" Stamp, Freehand "3" Capacity Number, and ONE OF THE BEST FLORALS FOUND ON LYONS STONEWARE. A stem with 7 leaves supports a Huge Blossom with 9 Petals and Dotted Center. All the flower is accented with fine lines. Stands 16 1/2" tall.
The flower is equivalant to the work of the decorators of Stetzenmeyer and Burger in Rochester, and perhaps even by one of them.
Excellent Condition. A couple 1/4" flakes on the left side near the bottom. That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
