Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar.
The decoration indicates it was made by William Nichols of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in the mid 1820's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 65).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with a Double Ridged Rim, Incised Line at the Shoulder, and a Flower Flanked by "Xs" on Each Side. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 9" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A series of small 1/4" chips around the rim, a 1 3/4" hairline from the rim on one side (closeup), a chip to the face of one side of one handle, and two 1/2" chips and minor nibbles around the base. No inner rim chips, stains, or restoration.
