Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Gallon Stoneware Jug with Floral.
The distinctive decoration indicates that it was made by Noah Furman of Cheesequake, New Jersey in the mid 19th century (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, p. 191-193).
Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Delicate and Artistic Double Tulip Decoration in Pretty Cobalt Blue. The decoration has the freehand capacity number above and two blossoms with six petals each on a single stem with five leaves. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the left side of the spout, and a 1/2" chip at the base. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A hot spot from the kiln on the back in the making.
