Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Bird on a Branch Decoration.
The decoration indicates that it was made by the Somerset Potters Works of Somerset, Massachusetts and run by Leonard and Benjamin G. Chace from 1847-1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 51).
This beauty features the Somerset "Singing Bird" Decoration. It is so called because the accents above the bird have been interpreted as musical notes. A great folk art decoration. Measures 9" tall and 10" wide across the top.
A great size for decorating.
Excellent Condition. Three chips inside the rim (1/4" to 5/8"), a narrow 3/4" chip on the back of the left handle, a narrow 1/2" chip on the back near the bottom, and some small and light stains. That's it! No outer rim chip, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
