Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful and early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug
The distinctive decoration indicates that this is the work of Abial Price of Middletown Point, New Jersey who ran his pottery from 1840 to his death in 1852. It has the same decoration as is found on his rare field jug as illustrated in M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, p. 114-115. See Branin, pp. 194-195 for more discussion of this potter.
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form, Honey Colored Glaze, and a Price's "Flying Tulip" Decoration. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Glaze wear around the middle and a 1/2" chip at the base. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
