Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Ovoid Stoneware Jar.
This jar is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Tall Rim, Ringed Shoulder Band, Rounded Footer, and a Garland of Two Sideways Cobalt Tulips on Each Side with Additional Cobalt at the Handle Terminals. Gorgeous cobalt was used throughout the decoration! Stands 12 1/2" tall
Very Good Condition. A 1" surface-only ping line above one handle (closeup 1) and professional restoration for a approximately 2" narrow chip on the footer (closeup 2). No chips, hairlines, cracks, or stains. Mottled coloring on one side in the making.
