Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Semi-Ovoid Jug stamped "Lyons."

The shape and decoration make it most likely that this is the work of Thompson Harrington who ran the pottery in Lyons from 1852 to 1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 73-74).

This beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Shape, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Large Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthemum with Four Leaves and a Blossom with 8 Petals.  The floral fills the front with bold and shiny cobalt!  Stands 14" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A very narrow 1" chip on the bottom edge, and a 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge.  Some spots of staining from use.  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks or restoration.  Two adjacent small 1/4" flakes on top of the handle, a tiny clay flip in one leaf of the decoration, and a narrow 1" chip along the bottom right edge-- all in the making.
