Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.
This jar is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Rim and Four Large and Flamboyant Looped Comma Vines around the Middle. Each unit of vining has three brush strokes, the last of which forms a loop. Gorgeous cobalt too! Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A flat 5/8" chip on the bottom that is partly in the making. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
