Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Cute 1 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped "Lyons."
This is likely the work of Thompson Harrington who ran the pottery in Lyons from 1852 to 1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 73-74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Capacity Number, a Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthemum, and Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals. The flower has four leaves and a blossom with ten petals. Strong and shiny cobalt too! The decorator gave this little jar all the attention that he or she would have given a larger jar. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Five small chips (1/4" or less) and some nibbles on the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, and some isolated faint stains from use. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
