Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Lidded Preserve Jar.
The decoration strongly indicates that it was made by William A. MacQuoid who ran his pottery in Manhattan from 1863-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 63).
Dating around 1870, this beauty features a Preserve Jar Form with Tall Neck, Impressed Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Double Tulip Decoratin. Comes with a matching lid. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor wear and nibbles on the seating ring and inside the top rim, a 1/4" flake on the back o fthe left handle, and some staining in the back. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The lid has two 1/2" chips on the edge. The chip on the knob is in the making and glazed over.
